  • Buying your first home
  • Buying your next home
  • Investment property lending

KiwiSaver

We can provide some guidance about KiwiSaver as part of our financial advice service, but there’s a bit of a boundary around it. Where the KiwiSaver info is tied to using KiwiSaver for a first-home purchase, our help is mostly about walking you through the process and pointing you to the relevant information.

We won’t be able to give investment recommendations for your retirement savings, unless it falls within the specific advice scope we’ve said in our service.

3. What We Do Not Advise On

Our financial advice service does not cover every type of financial product or professional service.

We do not provide financial advice about:

  • Investments outside our stated advice scope
  • Fire and general insurance
  • Legal matters
  • Tax matters
  • Accounting matters

Where appropriate, we may refer you to another suitably qualified professional for these services.

Any legal, tax or accounting advice should be obtained directly from a solicitor, accountant or other appropriately qualified professional.

The lenders and providers available to you may depend on your circumstances and the nature of your application.

We do not guarantee that every lender or product will be available or suitable for you.

5. How We Are Paid

In most situations you do not actually pay us, a fee straight out, for the financial advice.

We generally get commission from the lender or the insurance provider, once a financial product is arranged and then settles.

Depending on the provider and on the product, that commission might have an upfront portion, ongoing amounts or even a set cost for certain services like loan refixing , or insurance renewal.

The size and the kind of commission, can also shift , from provider to provider and between products.

We will explain the relevant remuneration associated with your advice where required.

6. When a Fee May Apply

Although we generally receive commission from product providers, there are circumstances where a fee may apply.

If a lender does not pay us a commission

If we provide advice or assistance in relation to a product where we do not receive commission from the lender, we may charge a one-off advice fee.

Any such fee will be agreed with you in writing before the relevant service is completed.

Our current fee rate for this situation is based on the time spent providing the advice, at $250 plus GST per hour.

If commission must be repaid

If we are required to repay commission to a lender, we may charge you a fee of up to $2,500 plus GST.

The fee is calculated at $250 plus GST per hour and will not exceed the amount of commission that we are required to repay.

Where a fee applies, we will explain the amount and payment arrangements to you.

8. Conflicts of Interest

Because we may receive commissions from lenders and insurance providers, a potential conflict of interest can arise.

We manage these conflicts by following an advice process that considers your needs, objectives and circumstances.

Our approach includes:

  • Considering suitable products based on your circumstances
  • Accessing a range of lenders and product providers
  • Not recommending a product simply because it pays a higher commission
  • Ensuring the amount of lending recommended is appropriate to your requirements
  • Maintaining processes designed to identify and manage conflicts of interest
  • Following our legal and regulatory obligations

Our priority is to provide advice that is appropriate for your circumstances.

9. Insurance Commissions

For personal insurance , we might receive commission from the related insurance provider when your policy is set up.

The commission amount can change, it depends on the insurer , the product and the policy itself.

With certain referred Fire and General insurance services, we may be paid commission by Tower Insurance or PIC Insurance Brokers.

We do not take any commission or charges from solicitors, accountants, or investment advisers that we introduce to you.

10. Our Duties to You

This includes obligations to:

  • Act with integrity
